Today's Physics lesson was about up, down and strange quarks. This sounded interesting so I asked my children, "What is a quark?" They responded, "Quarks are the building blocks of protons and neutrons and therefore really the building blocks of everything."
Did you know that? I didn't...as their primary teacher, I should have known that but seriously I don't remember everything from the Physics class I took many eons ago...ok, seriously the only thing I remember from that class is where the classroom was located and even that is iffy.
Good thing-as the teacher I feel I need to know more than my children about what they are learning and I just discovered (thanks to the internet) there are actually six types of quarks. So there. In addition to the above three types there are top, bottom and charm quarks. Of course, this will probably be in Monday's lesson and then I'll have to do more research.
While this is all fascinating what made this worthy of a blog post was my middle son's comment, "When I first heard (quarks) I thought he(the teacher) said quirks and it made sense-we are all made from our quirks."
Going from quarks to quirks before breakfast-typical homeschool morning
Knowing my children understand that being different is normal and ok...beyond priceless-comforting.
Today, I hope that you can celebrate quarks (the building blocks of everyone) by recognizing and cherishing your quirks (what makes you unique).
Peace!
