Today, my son showed me a picture of a 100 pound rock in the desert. What made this an interesting picture is that the rock appeared to have forged a path in the desert. It rested at the end of a lengthy trail. In the distance, other rocks had etched similar trails. The book explains that scientists don't really know how this happened but they speculate that the rocks were pushed along by winds either after an icy condensation or after rain had softened the surface making it slick.
I think I'd like to have a larger copy of this picture. I find it fascinating and comforting. Let me explain.
The desolation and isolation and dryness of the desert is often a symbol of the struggles we have in our lives or the times we have felt we were all alone in our struggles or the dry times in our relationships with God or others. The heavy rock, likewise, is the weight we seem to carry, the problems that weigh us down or a symbol of the impossibility of a difficult task.
Today in our scripture studies and prayers the focus was on the presence and interaction of the Holy Spirit in our lives. The wind in our lives.
No matter how heavy my burdens, no matter how long the journey, no matter the directions, failures, dryness of feelings; God is with me, pushing me along the path to Him. I am not alone, though at times I do not see the others on their trails, others journey with me, before me and behind me. I do not see the wind nor know its strength until I am moved one step further or one step closer. From the the first step to the last step, God is with me as I journey and He is with you, too.
Will others discover my trail after I am long gone? Will they follow it or will the Holy Spirit guide them across my path and into another direction? I do not know. It is enough for me to know and accept that there are unseen helpers that bless my day.
As I look upon this picture, hope and comfort stir within me. I am blessed to be able to look back upon my life and see a trail etched with the loving guidance of God. All is well.
For you I pray that today you may experience the Holy Spirit giving you a push.
Peace and prayers!
