I don't know if it is true or not but I read once that sometimes people spend their lives looking for or praying for miracles...big miracles, so much so that they miss the small miracles present in the every day.
On the flip side, some people seem to see miracles everywhere. They see miracles in the sky, in their day to day activities and even in every breath they take-everywhere.
I am somewhere in between, though I probably tend to be closer to seeing small miracles in the everyday. In fact, I'd like to share about my most recent small miracle.
This morning as I contemplated getting out of bed, I heard one of the most beautiful sounds. Rain. While rain is a miracle of sorts, for me the miracle was more about the timing of the rain. It has been extremely dry here lately. The county has been under a fire ban and just this week an accidentally set fire burned 40 acres of land.
We own 40 acres of land and in recent years there have been fires that have raged through fields towards our property from all sides during these mini droughts. Fortunately, they have always been contained. Also, there have been random fires this year being set in the country where crops have been destroyed.
We sharecrop our land with a local farmer and the corn fields are dry and close to being harvested. However, our crops usually are one of the last to be planted in the spring and likewise last to be harvested in the fall. Every dry day is good for the crops but also a danger. If it rains, the moisture content goes up (lower quality) or it delays the harvest. If it doesn't rain, there is always a chance of fire.
This is also the time of year for bonfires and roasting marshmallows and making smores...which my children hope to be doing tomorrow evening. Not sure this will happen if the fire ban is still in effect.
Yesterday evening around 5 p.m. our fields were harvested and the trucks were on their way to be evaluated and weighed. I breathed a sigh of relief and offered a prayer of thanks. This morning the rain woke me up from a restless night. It was a peaceful beautiful sound-hearing the rain on the roof. It was perfect timing...to end the drought but not until the last harvest had been gathered.
I did get a good chuckle when I logged onto Facebook and saw a post from a friend for the rain to stop until after her rummage sale. I looked out my window and indeed the rain had passed. The rain-perfectly timed-what a beautiful miracle to wake up to this morning.
Are you experiencing a drought in your relationships with others or with God? Are you praying for a big miracle to solve your problems? Perhaps the answer is a small miracle or perhaps the miracle is coming but not until after the last harvest. Even in the worst of times, there is good to be harvested and raised up for thanks and praise. Then in His perfect timing it will be returned as a shower of blessings.
May God rain on you today-blessings of love, peace and joy!
