Are? Are? Are? Are we there yet?

Sunday's funnies: I didn't forget but Sunday is my day of rest.

After church we went out to eat and then took on one of my most dreaded tasks as a mother...clothes shopping for me and my daughter.

Just after leaving the restaurant, the children began with "Are we there yet?" Since they are tweens and teens this was done only in an attempt to annoy me. However, I was not in the mood to be annoyed-after all we had just left church and had an enjoyable meal...so I suggested that if they were all going to ask, Are we there yet? they could at least try to do it in the round or in chorus or sing it in harmony. For a few seconds there was silence. Then my son started with the sounds of rap music, pop, pop, bang "Are? Are? Are? Are we there yet?"

Not sure if that is as funny in type as it was in person...so I'll keep writing.

The mall was fun as always. Not. I don't enjoy clothes shopping. When I mentioned this, my son, thought this was totally abnormal for a mom/woman. I don't care. Husband pointed out that if this was an electronics store and I had money this wouldn't even be an issue. He was right.

After a couple of hours, the boys had finished wandering the mall and I had found a dress for the wedding but for my daughter I had only found one pair of pants that she liked. No acceptable shirts by her standards. Ugg. I'd had enough. Besides she has other shirts-we don't let her run around topless. My day of rest was in dire need of some computer time. It was time to leave. We paid for our purchases (not just a good example for the children, it is the right thing to do) and started weaving our way out of the store. I took the long way through the store in hopes of finding maybe just one new shirt for my daughter. Intermittently, I pointed out tops.

All I can say is I think my daughter inherited my shopping genes(not jeans). She also had had enough and said, "Mom, don't look at anything else. Just close your eyes and follow my voice." Had I done so, I would also have in a rapper's voice sung, "Are? Are? Are? Are we there yet?"

Hope you had a great day of rest and found some laughter, too?

Question for the Day:

Are you in such a hurry to get where you are going that instead of taking a needed day of rest you are more concerned with, "Are we there yet?"

  1. Sadly, yes. I forget to rest with great regularity.
