Hi,
It seems like it has been a while since I've had anything to write about and today I was blessed with two inspirations or topics to share. I'll try to make it quick. Actually I will probably make two posts.
Recently, I have been reading a book that explores concepts presented in St.Teresa of Avila's book The Interior Castle. In order to fully appreciate this book one must have read or at least be familiar with St. Teresa's book. Anyway this book is not a book to read quickly but seeks to explore the mansions of our soul as presented by St. Teresa.
Last night's meditation referred to God surprises and how as we grow closer to God there will be many surprises. Out of context this seems simplistic, I suppose. Yet between reading this meditation last night before going to sleep and now writing this post I have been presented with at least four different interpretations of what is the mansion of our souls. I haven't even eaten breakfast yet.
As I consider these vastly different interpretations, that all seem "right" I am feeling a bit surprised and intrigued. How can they all be right?
In general, that is one of the mysteries of God we struggle with isn't it? How can so many people and religions and faiths that are so different all be right? Or are any of them fully right in God's eyes? We build up our defenses about why we are following the right path and well they aren't? Yes, don't try to deny that you have these prejudices. I think is ok. I think God puts these in our minds perhaps as a way to guide us closer to the truth in a way that will speak to us individually.
But I think we need to be careful not to condemn or judge the paths of others in order to justify our own. This is especially important for those called to evangelize.
On the other hand,we all evangelize by our words, thoughts and actions. My closing thought for today is when you evangelize try to be as a light and not as a hammer.
May the peace of God be with you today.
