K is for King's House Retreat Center

If you've been reading along for the A-Z challenge you know that I recently went on a retreat and I have been sharing insights from those blessed days.

The place I went to for the retreat is called "King's House Retreat Center". It is just outside of St. Louis in Belleville. Even though it is in Belleville, once you arrive it feels like you are in a nice country setting. The retreat center is situated on 47 acres of well maintained lands.

A couple of features about the center that I absolutely love are the labyrinth and the chapel. I have always loved labyrinths and I hope to build one on my property someday. In fact, this is something I've wanted to do since we moved here eleven years ago. My problem with this is that I keep trying to make it more complicated than it needs to be. Do you ever do that? I do. I've considered making the lines out of hedges, flower boxes, bamboo, raised gardens and so on. Thus it hasn't happened yet. At the retreat center their amazing labyrinth is made out of white rocks and mulch-Simple design, simple materials.

So I guess this was another thing I brought home from the retreat-the concept and beauty of living simply. Another example of this were the rooms. They were small, but comfortable yet every bedroom had a connecting bathroom area. There were two windows which provided breezes and light. I loved my room. It was uncluttered and comforting.

As for the chapel, it too, connected with something I have always loved, it wasn't a traditional building. It was more of a partial octagon shape. Inside it was open and peaceful and once again reflected simplicity.

Can you tell I loved this place?

I highly recommend stopping or attending one of their programs or retreats if you get a chance.

If you check out the King's House Retreat Center website you will find pictures and recipes (remember what I said about it being the best food ever!).

Blessings and Peace!
